Palace Huis Ten Bosch | Prince Room
plantica's Ikebana Installation in the "Prince Room" at Huis Ten Bosch Flower Festival
As a guest artist for the 2015 “Flower Grand Festival” at Huis Ten Bosch (Sasebo, Nagasaki), plantica designed installations across four rooms in the “Palace Huis Ten Bosch.” This report focuses on the spatial design within the “Prince Room.”
Exhibition Theme: Ikebana | Human meets Flowers.
In the “Prince Room,” characterized by its antique European aesthetic, plantica created a contrasting spatial design by introducing traditional Japanese Ikebana. Inspired by the room’s pervasive botanical-patterned wallpaper, the installation sought a dialogue with the space through Ikebana’s distinctive compositional beauty, emphasizing the natural lines and forms of the plants.
plantica’s philosophy behind this Ikebana installation:
“Ikebana begins with an encounter between humans and nature. It is an art of shaping (‘ikeru’) to give form to that encounter. Ikebana is a ‘living sculpture’ created by humans and nature, and together, they are ‘proof of having lived.'”
Exhibition Details:
36 Ikebana arrangements presented in 36 custom acrylic vases.
