Palace Huis Ten Bosch | The Mural Room
plantica's "Anti-War and Peace" Installation at Huis Ten Bosch's Flower Grand Festival
In the spring of 2015, plantica was invited as a guest artist to Huis Ten Bosch’s (Sasebo, Nagasaki) annual “Flower Grand Festival.” For this event, plantica designed installations across four rooms within the “Palace Huis Ten Bosch.” This report highlights the installation in the “Mural Room | Anti-War and Peace.”
Exhibition Theme: Peace, Unity, Love, and Having Flowers.
Within the “Mural Room,” which features vast murals depicting the devastation of war, plantica’s installation directly addressed these scenes, expressing a profound wish for peace through the motifs of “flowers and hands.” Countless vacuum-packed pressed flowers (approx. 800) were suspended from the ceiling. At the room’s center, an octagonal display platform held approximately 250 bouquets of artificial flowers and 30 plaster sculptures of “Hands Holding Flowers.”
plantica’s artistic statement for this installation:
“Flowers are universally cherished as symbols of peace, unity, and love, transcending nationality, religion, and generations. These symbolic sentiments and intentions are expressed when one holds a flower. In this room, amidst murals portraying the horrors of war, we aim to give form to humanity’s age-old aspiration for eternal peace through the medium of flowers and human hands, re-emphasizing the vital symbolic message that flowers carry. The flowers, seemingly floating in a vacuum, represent our prayers and wishes for peace to be passed on to future generations.”

(Peace, Unity, Love, and Having Flowers)
